Terms of Service

By creating an account or using BuiltDifferent, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use BuiltDifferent for a business, you agree on its behalf.

BuiltDifferent gives each project hosting, domains and DNS, email, texting, a store and checkout, members, forms, subscribers and analytics, managed from one dashboard. We improve the service over time, which means features can change, and we may retire features with reasonable notice.

Keep your details accurate and your login secure. You are responsible for everything done in your account, including by team members you invite.

You are responsible for your projects: their content, what they sell, and how they treat the people who use them. That includes telling visitors what you collect, getting consent before sending marketing email or texts, following the laws that apply to your business, and handling your own taxes.

Do not use BuiltDifferent to:

• Break the law or infringe anyone's rights.
• Host malware, phishing, scams or deceptive sites.
• Send spam, or text people who have not agreed to hear from you.
• Overload, probe or attack our systems or anyone else's.
• Sell anything our payment and texting partners prohibit.

We may remove content, pause sending or suspend a project that breaks these rules, and we will tell you why unless the law or safety prevents it. To report abuse, email [email protected].

Domains are registered through our registrar partner with you as the registrant, and they follow the rules of the registry for each ending. Renewals are billed yearly. If auto-renew is off or a renewal payment fails, a domain can expire and may be lost. Domains stay with your account if you delete a project, and you can ask us to transfer one to another registrar.

Plans are chosen per project and billed monthly in U.S. dollars through Stripe. Usage beyond what a plan includes, like extra texts, may be charged. Prices can change with 30 days' notice.

Checkout on your projects runs on your own Stripe account. We add a platform fee to each sale based on your plan, and Stripe charges its own processing fees. When you refund a sale, the platform fee comes back in proportion.

If a payment fails, Stripe retries it and the project keeps its plan in the meantime. A project that stays unpaid can be moved to the free plan or paused. Domain registrations, renewals and transfers usually cannot be refunded once processed, because registries do not refund them. Other refunds are decided case by case.

Some services depend on partners. Payments are subject to Stripe's terms, domains to the registrar and registry rules, and texting to carrier requirements. By using those services, you agree to follow those terms too.

The assistant can be wrong. Review what it suggests before you rely on it, and do not paste in anything you are not allowed to share.

Businesses on BuiltDifferent can text their customers from their own number: order and appointment updates, replies to messages, and occasional offers to people who signed up for them. Texts are only sent to people who agreed to receive them or who texted the business first.

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop receiving texts from that business, START to resubscribe, and HELP for help. For support, contact the business or email [email protected]. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

If you send texts through BuiltDifferent, you must have each recipient's consent, identify your business in your messages, and follow carrier rules. Texts that break these terms can be blocked and your texting switched off.

You own your code, content and data. You give us permission to host, copy and serve them only to run the service for you. BuiltDifferent's name, logo and software belong to us.

We work to keep BuiltDifferent fast and online, but it is provided as is, without a guarantee of uptime or fitness for a particular purpose. Keep your own copies of anything critical.

You can stop using BuiltDifferent at any time: cancel your plans in the dashboard and email us to close your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or goes unpaid. After an account closes, we delete its data within a reasonable time, except what the law requires us to keep. You can transfer your domains away before that.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, like lost profits or data, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. You agree to cover claims against us that come from your projects or your breach of these terms.

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. Using BuiltDifferent after that means you accept the new terms.
